PROJECT: Cormar Carpets wanted to improve the welfare facilities for their employees and required a bespoke solution. We created a 4-bay, 12M x 12M modular building with staff lockers and full kitchen facilities.

CLIENT DETAILS: Cormar Carpets started life in 1924, initially trading as Greenwood & Coope Limited, a textile supplier based in the Rossendale Valley.  In 1956, with the advent of a new method of making carpets called ‘tufted’, Neville Cormack set up Cormar Carpets. For the past 60 years, they have been manufacturing carpets at their two Lancashire mills, Brookhouse Mill in Greenmount and Holme Mill in Ramsbottom.

They encourage a local, family feel to the company. As a family-run business with family values at heart, they take great pride in understanding the home and creating the final piece of the jigsaw to make their customers’ homes “just right.” Using their fleet of vehicles, they manufacture and deliver carpets from distribution sites in Hemel Hempstead and Bury to over 3,000 Cormar retailers across the UK and Ireland.

OVERVIEW: Cormar was interested in improving the welfare facilities for their employees and believed that a modular building would prove to be an ideal solution. However, they were keen to avoid acquiring a standard modular building supplied from stock that looked just like every other modular building.

KEY ISSUES FACED BY CLIENT: Cormar Carpets were keen to choose what they wanted rather than being told what they could have. They wanted to put their own stamp on the design and create a bespoke space that fit their needs precisely and was absolutely fit for purpose. They had clear plans for a few features they would like, including bigger windows to provide lots of light and internal decoration ideas. A further critical requirement was finding a supplier that offered a full turn-key package to manage the project from start to finish and take responsibility for any potential challenges, including planning permission, building control applications, groundworks and utility connections.

WHAT SPRINGFIELD DID: We demonstrated that we were a perfect fit for their needs by arranging a factory visit for Cormar Carpets to see first-hand our time-served craftsmen at work, followed by a visit to a previous project. This gave Cormar Carpets all the confidence they needed to commit to Springfield, knowing that we are industry leaders and offer extensive choices for internal and external finishes.

SUMMARY & KEY BENEFITS: Cormar Carpets now have a new welfare facility that includes all the requested design features. It was delivered and handed over within 6 weeks, including groundwork. We will also re-visit, as requested, to fit a canopy linking their factory to our building.
