CLIENT DETAILS:

Newcastle Baptist Church is a lively friendly family Baptist church based in the Clayton area of Newcastle-under-Lyme. They offer a wide range of activities throughout the week including midweek communion, fellowship groups and sessions dedicated to youth groups, young students and children. Holiday clubs are also offered along with regular social get togethers including summer Barbeques. The Church also makes it’s premises available to local community groups and therefore keen to offer modern, adaptable facilities.          All this activity needs suitable accommodation but unfortunately the current building was in need of replacement and not really satisfactory for purpose.  More details here: http://www.newcastlebaptist.org.uk/

OVERVIEW:

The extensive activities offered by Newcastle Baptist Church for its members required space and multi-purpose facilities to prove suitable for purpose. Unfortunately the existing timber built modular building was in a state of disrepair and the Church decided to seek costs for a suitable replacement.

The numerous activities dictated that the new space should provide 2 classrooms, male & female toilets and a large hall facility with disabled access. A fully fitted kitchen was crucial along with the need for the building to be aesthetically pleasing to ensure planning needs were met and the building “fitted in” with the other church buildings.

KEY ISSUES FACED BY CLIENT:

The difficulty in keeping down cost despite having a demanding wish list. Keen to find a company happy to meet the high spec requirements and offer a wide choice of finishes inside and out. Important to find a manufacturer flexible to their needs.

WHAT SPRINGFIELD DID:

  • Listened to the client’s needs and produced detailed plans for review, surveyed the site to identify how to maximise space provided. Identified a way to provide DDA compliant access through a custom built ramp & steps. Invited representatives from the Church to the factory to demonstrate the craftsmanship involved in our products, witness the care and attention taken and see, first-hand, examples of all the options available.
  • Built the units in our workshop and shipped the 8 bays to site for installation saving weeks of on-site disruption.
  • Connected the building to all utilities water, sewage, electrics.
  • Handed over buildings within 3 weeks of delivery.

SUMMARY & KEY BENEFITS:

Newcastle Baptist Church needed to replace a building which was falling in to disrepair but recognised that the “off the shelf” units being offered by most of the portable building suppliers would not be suitable for purpose. They needed a unit that not only matched existing buildings but also offered flexibility in interior design but without incurring major cost. The bespoke service offered by Springfield allowed them to dictate the materials used on the outside and inside of the unit to complement existing buildings and provide all the facilities on their wish list including a fully fitted kitchen all within budget and at a competitive price. The offer of a full turn-key project was also very valuable and gave a “peace of mind” to the committee with little experience in managing a project of this nature.

  • Built to clients specification
  • Provided all the internal details required
  • Aesthetically pleasing unit with partial timber cladding
  • Included DDA compliant disabled ramp access provided
  • Built off site to reduce on-site impact
  • Full turn-key project including planning permission, building control and utilities connection.
