PROJECT:   New Modular Nursery Building – 16 modules, a mix of cedar clad and anthracite. Providing 24M x 19M of space for: a reception area, office space, a staffroom, a kitchen, adult and children’s toilets, baby, pre-school, toddler quiet areas along with spare space for meetings and training.

CLIENT DETAILS:

Butterflies Day Nursery provide high quality nursery and out of school care for young children aged between 3 months and 11 years. They offer a “common sense” and affordable approach to childcare, supporting parents and carers in producing children who are happy, confident, inquisitive, interested and enthusiastic about life and the challenges they encounter.

Choosing childcare is an emotive decision and they understand what is important to both parents and children.

This child focussed approach has proven attractive to many families in the area and created a demand for further facilities.

Tony Finnis, a Director at Butterflies Nursery, was keen to satisfy this demand and explored options which would deliver the required space at economical cost enabling the new facility to deliver the high-quality childcare provision at affordable prices for which Butterflies are renowned.

Tony was also keen to make the new building as welcoming as possible with well-lit space and child friendly features such as anti-scald taps, finger guards on doors and relevant height toilets.

Located on a high-profile site in Bridgwater it was also important that externally the appearance of the building was pleasing to the eye.

This challenging wish list narrowed down the potential suppliers considerably as there is a tendency in the marketplace to encourage clients to buy units already built and in stock -removing most of the opportunities for individuality, personalisation and specification.

Tony’s research led him to opening discussions with Springfield Mobile Limited.

Over 40 years-experience of working in the education sector across the UK along with our determination to deliver exactly what the client needs in terms of internal and external choice of finishes was appealing to Tony. His budget costs were met, and Springfield were appointed to supply the facility.

OVERVIEW:

Springfield worked closely with Tony to ensure he took full advantage of all the design choices available to him both externally & internally and the internal space was allocated to best suit the various activities in the building. Tony chose high spec finishes which have provided a very aesthetically pleasing workspace both inside & out.

The total space required was significant and required the construction of 16 modules which were built in our St Helens factory and delivered to site as required. This enabled the whole building to be erected over 2 days, avoiding lengthy disruption for our client and the local community.

KEY ISSUES FACED BY CLIENT:

The key issues faced by Butterflies Nursery were the need to source a substantial amount of space to accommodate all the activities available at an affordable price, whilst still providing an attractive building externally with high-spec, child friendly, internal space. No pressure then!

WHAT SPRINGFIELD DID:

Our Sales team negotiated the costing of the project and outlined the wide range of choice available both externally & internally to ensure Butterflies were delivered the very best building we could manufacture for their purpose.

We then appointed a dedicated project manager, Keith Hynes, to work with Butterflies to ensure the project went to plan and delivered on time & on budget.  Plans were discussed, agreed and successfully submitted for planning permission.

Keith then co-ordinated the whole process: managing the production at our St Helens factory, liaising with external contractors appointed by Tony to manage the external groundworks and building foundations along with the supply of all utilities including drains and water supply.

Following successful completion of the groundworks and utilities the logistical challenge of delivering 16 individual units on 16 separate tailor-made modular transportation units was co-ordinated along with suitable heavy lifting cranes to load and offload the 9.6M (32ft) modules.

SUMMARY & KEY BENEFITS:

Butterflies Day Nurseries & Out of School Clubs now have a brand-new custom built, high spec. facility! It offers all the benefits of a traditional build, at a fraction of the cost & time, enabling many more children to enjoy the nurturing atmosphere and exceptional facilities provided by the dedicated and caring staff at Butterflies.

The children will experience a bright and secure child-friendly purpose-built learning environment and the staff will enjoy the high spec. facilities offered by the new building. The landscaping of the surrounding area will also create an aesthetically pleasing appearance and welcoming approach to the building.
