OVERVIEW:

Lansbury School needed more space to accommodate growing children numbers specifically for the Early Year pre-school education facility. Two classrooms were required suitable for children with special needs along with a wet room with disabled facilities and junior male & female toilets. A major challenge included the need to re-configure the existing building as part of the extension project.

KEY ISSUES FACED BY CLIENT:

The school needed additional space but were keen to avoid lengthy on-site disruption particularly given that the site accommodated vulnerable children. Installation during school holidays was an attractive option so St Helens Council turned to Springfield following the commissioning of several other successful projects with us including a major project at Broad Oak Primary in 2016. The fact that the units could be built off-site then delivered and completed in the school holidays proved a compelling option. Further challenges included the need for a Company that could cope with extensive groundworks, happy to offer re-construction work within the existing building to make better use of the new space and understand the risks associated with working on contaminated ground.

WHAT SPRINGFIELD DID:

Identified, in discussion with the School & Council, their exact requirements, drew and discussed plans for approval which included the alteration of existing buildings to ensure the new extension made best use of the total space being provided. Built all units off-site, prepared all groundworks including delivery of all utility facilities, professionally handled the contaminated ground issue, landscaped the affected area then delivered all 6 units and handed over to the school within the holiday period.

SUMMARY & KEY BENEFITS:

Springfield delivered the project on-time & on budget within the school holiday period avoiding the very real dangers presented by on-site working. We included and designed additional internal structural work to make the new space work more effectively.
