PROJECT:    2 Storey Modular Office & Welfare Block comprising 8 modules 4 on 4 to create new office facilities, toilets & showers.

CLIENT DETAILS:

Efficient transport is clearly critical for Britain’s industrial sector. The story of rail freight since privatisation is one of great success and no Company embodies this more than GB Railfreight. GBRf’s team of almost 900 people operate over 1,400 train loads a week moving 22% of Britain’s rail freight with 99% reliability.  BRf’s Train Managers oversee a fleet of 149 locomotives and over 1,400 wagons, transporting goods for customers including Drax, Network Rail, EDF Energy, MSC UK, Aggregate Industries, Crossrail, and Tarmac. GBRf’s specialist teams design transport answers for industry leaders in the coal, biomass, intermodal, infrastructure, petrochemical, construction, aggregates, and automotive markets making them a critical cog in the wheels of our national economy.

OVERVIEW:

GBRf needed to replace and upgrade existing but ageing accommodation that provided office and welfare space for their busy team. An initial website research exercise led them to Springfield and following conversations over the specific needs of GBRf and the difficult issues to be faced in completing the project, a detailed plan was provided to provide a bespoke building to fulfil all the requirements of their workforce and addressed the complexities involved in siting the building.

KEY ISSUES FACED BY CLIENT:

The proximity to the rail track was clearly a major consideration with all the inherent danger associated with lifting and manoeuvring multiple heavy modules in to place with trains passing literally within a few feet. The rest of the site was also very restrictive in terms of space available and accessibility and a further potential obstacle was the tight window for installation.

WHAT SPRINGFIELD DID:

As with all Springfield projects a dedicated project manager, Keith Hynes,  was appointed to the task to establish RailFreight’s exact requirements and after a site visit to establish the challenges in siting the units including logistics, time frame and critical safety issues, plans were drawn to accommodate all the client requirements and agree a production schedule to coincide with the allotted installation date.

All units were constructed at Springfield’s St Helens production facility including all electrics, plumbing, flooring, and décor to ensure time on site was limited to linking the units and then connecting utilities to the building.

SUMMARY & KEY BENEFITS:

GB Railfreight now have a brand-new building designed to their exact specifications and fit for purpose delivered on budget and on time. All safety and timing issues were identified, and plans agreed to eliminate all potential hazards.
