4 Bay Modular Nursery extension to Primary School – Classrooms with child & disabled toilets and staff kitchen.

CLIENT DETAILS:

Bourne Abbey holds an important position as a long-established and highly regarded school within the Bourne community. They are proud to be a school where learning comes first. Their curriculum is exciting and inspires in their pupils a love of learning. They have a vision for each child in that they will work towards their personal best, in a caring atmosphere, which reflects British values and the Christian values of the school. They encourage pupils to have a very positive self-image and to be confident in their learning.

You will see smiling faces when you visit Bourne Academy, but you will also see outstanding learning and teaching in every part of the school. Pupils achieve great results and academic standards are very important at Bourne Abbey. The school loves sport, music, dance and drama and produces fabulous artwork across a broad curriculum. All pupils are offered a wide range of opportunities, activities and after-school clubs from expertise within school and from outside providers. Visitors to the school and educational visits provide opportunities to extend learning to the wider learning environment, as do quality residential study visits offered in Years 4, 5 and 6.

OVERVIEW:

A growing demand for further nursery accommodation at Bourne Abbey resulted in a search for a Company that could provide modular units to cope with increasing numbers. However, they were keen to find units that were aesthetically pleasing and not the grey units traditionally associated with school modular buildings. Springfield stood out as a Company who could not only offer attractive buildings to match the schools demands but positively encouraged their clients to create their building exactly how they wanted it with a massive choice of finishes both inside & out. Kier Construction were commissioned to manage the project and chose Newman Moore for the groundworks & landscaping.

The flexibility Springfield offered over building design and finishes made them a clear choice to manufacture, deliver and install the units.

KEY ISSUES FACED BY CLIENT:

Finding a modular building supplier who could provide individual touches to the inside of the building and enable the external appearance of the building to be in harmony with its surroundings. It was also important that the chosen Company had experience in working with schools and had an excellent reputation for managing the unique safety challenges presented.

The selected Company also needed to work effectively with the main contractor and groundworks Company to ensure a tight schedule was met and the project ran smoothly on time and on budget.

WHAT SPRINGFIELD DID:

Springfield were able to meet all the demands of the school and main contractor and worked directly with the school to design a unique building in line with the school vision. We provided a cedar clad and buttermilk finish to the exterior and included anti scald taps, window locks, double doors for easy access and funky colours to the doors and surfaces of the toilet cubicles.

All 4 bays were manufactured in our St Helens factory, delivered to site and linked & installed during the half term holiday to avoid any potential of risk to the schoolchildren or school staff.

SUMMARY & KEY BENEFITS:

Bourne Abbey now have adequate custom-built space, which is conducive to a healthy learning environment, the building is safe, secure and fit for purpose. The building is also externally attractive and does not negatively impact on the immediate surroundings in the way that a traditional green/grey unit would.
