CLIENT DETAILS:
Frank Roberts & Sons Limited known to us all as “Roberts Bakery” have been making “fresh, fluffy loaves baked to perfection since 1887”. The Company has grown from humble beginnings as a grocery store, which sold freshly baked bread to the residents of Northwich in the heart of Cheshire. Today the company delivers freshly baked goods to customer’s right across the North of England, North Wales and the Midlands.
Over 3.5 million loaves of high-quality bread, bread rolls and teacakes are made lovingly at the Roberts Bakery each week. You can see them rotating in their iconic cooling towers at the front of the bakery, a renowned local landmark in Cheshire – the area they still call home.
The Company continues to grow and the need for more space to accommodate increasing staff numbers resulted in the Company looking for a new building to provide room for a number of facilities.
OVERVIEW:
The continuing growth at Roberts Bakery dictated that more space was required to provide a number of facilities including reception, canteen, male & female toilets, shower rooms, meeting rooms and offices. It was important for them to find a supplier who could deliver an attractive high spec accommodation as the building would receive high profile blue-chip clients visiting for meetings and product development discussions. The need to create a good impression also meant that the building supplier must have experience of producing visually striking units that matched the current buildings and were aesthetically pleasing.
KEY ISSUES FACED BY CLIENT:
Along with the need for a high spec, top quality, visually attractive building it was also important to select a business capable of linking the new units via a corridor to the existing building and a Company competent in the delivery of all the groundworks associated with the project. Roberts also needed help in designing the buildings to make the best use of the space and deciding whether to create a two or one-storey block. Given the importance of the new building, Roberts assessed the marketplace carefully and after checking out a number of manufacturers a delegation from Roberts Bakery visited Springfield manufacturing plant to witness first-hand the craftsmanship and attention to detail demonstrated by the time served workforce. This was followed by a further visit to an existing client of Springfield for an inspection of a completed unit and to gather feedback from the client on Springfield’s performance. The decision to appoint Springfield was finally taken when we managed to meet all their requirements within budget.
WHAT SPRINGFIELD DID:
Firstly Keith Hynes, one of our senior project managers, visited the site to discuss their needs, listened to their brief, offered a number of options and then drew up plans to accommodate all the required facilities in an 8 bay, single storey building linked to the main offices. The plans included foundation work, further groundworks and connection to all utilities along with external features that would not only look aesthetically pleasing but match the current buildings and corporate colours. Sections of the building were designed with a timber cladding to further enhance the appearance. The building was signed off and the 8 units completed in the Springfield St. Helens warehouse and delivered in sections to Northwich for completion.
SUMMARY & KEY BENEFITS:
Roberts have now had their brand new multi-purpose building handed over following just 3 weeks of on-site completion work and can now receive high profile clients into a welcoming suite of offices and Roberts staff can benefit from a wide range of new welfare facilities. The building matches the existing buildings in both appearance and corporate colours and will provide custom designed great space for everybody.
