Modular Construction – An All-Weather Solution
It’s safe to say that British weather is unpredictable.
This year began with the warmest New Year’s Day on record as St James’s Park in central London reached 16.3C.
Then on July 19th, the UK hit record-breaking heat, reaching 40°C (104°F) for the first time ever. Doctor’s surgeries were shut, and our train service was limited for fear the tracks would buckle.
Scotland also recorded its highest ever temperature, according to the Met Office, reaching 34.8°C (94.6°F) in Charterhall in the Scottish Borders.
Despite this year’s heatwave, the UK is well known for its wind and rain and the weather is our favourite topic of conversation!
So, with the potential for weather fluctuations and inclement conditions, how do builders manage to keep working? With difficulty is an honest answer and in some cases, the answer is they can’t!
However, there is one sector of the construction industry where the weather just isn’t an issue.
Modular construction uses offsite methods, here at Springfield, we build all our buildings in our 40,000 sq. ft. St Helens factory. This eliminates any danger posed by the weather while also reducing health and safety concerns for staff that extreme weather conditions clearly present when working in extreme heat or biting cold.
Consequently, along with an uninterrupted production process in an automated factory providing us with an advantage Modular buildings can also be created with bespoke features to help in the battle against the heat & cold, however extreme.
An integrated ventilation system is a great way to enhance comfort, or maybe air conditioning, creating clean air and a cooling effect that will certainly be a great benefit however hot it gets.
We can also work with our customers to create areas of shade around the building, perhaps situating the building in an already shady space. If there are no shaded areas available, we can include canopies for areas of outdoor use that will offer protection from the elements.
I guess, to sum up, what we are saying is – tell us what you need and if it can be done, we’ll do it – we have a reputation for finding solutions where others see problems.
Windows
One thing that can make all the difference, when it comes to an adaptable environment, is the windows. To give you every advantage, we have a large range for you to choose from, large, small, square, round, double or triple glazed, just ask there is very little we can’t do.
We always include high spec glass to considerably reduce the energy required to heat a room and an essential in the fight to save money in the winter months, but we can always upgrade even further if your budget allows.
There is actually no limit to your choice, if it’s on the market and you want it, just let us know and we’ll ensure you get it, recent additions include:
Tinted Glass to help prevent the sun’s glare and UV rays from entering the building.
Trickle Vents provide the building with ventilation and provide air to the extract fans to aid in the removal of odours and humidity.
Argon Filled Windows to increase the energy efficiency and bring the temperature of the window closer to room temperature.
Solar Tinted Glass helps eliminate hot spots in the building and regulate the amount of light entering each room.
Whatever your needs and aspirations we are happy to work with you to create a building that meets your every need, feel free to discuss your ideas with one of our project managers, we may just have a few ideas you hadn’t even thought of.
