CLIENT DETAILS:

G A Harper are a well respected general construction Company based in Dartford Kent. They offer a wide range of construction services including work for Local Government Authorities. In this capacity, they are contractors to the London Borough of Bexley and were approached to bid for the construction of modular buildings for Endeavour Academy in Bexley. Recognising that it was a particularly complex construction, they approached a number of contractors to bid for the project and selected Springfield Mobile. This is because they closely matched their need to work with a highly experienced manufacturer flexible in their approach to design and high standards, coupled with many years experience in managing school projects and all the inherent safety issues.

OVERVIEW:

Endeavour Academy are part of the New Horizon Federation, and continuing success in attracting additional students created a demand for additional space. They originally considered a traditional build but quickly recognised that modular buildings offered much more space for the budget available and offered a much quicker build with lower risk to the children staff given that most of the construction is completed off-site.

The final plans featured 2 separate modular buildings providing 4 classrooms, along with staff restrooms and break-out facilities.

KEY ISSUES FACED BY CLIENT:

Safety of the children and staff is, of course, a key consideration when commissioning a new building. This concern is then heightened when the school is a SEND (special educational needs and disabilities) site.

As with every school project, the safety of the children and staff are paramount to Springfield.  Our 40+ years of experience in education installations were considered invaluable in ensuring full protection was provided.  Endeavour Academy also requested specialist internal fittings to reflect the SEND status that included many enhanced safety features. Additionally, the school were keen to minimise on-site disruption and were comforted by our strict operating policies which show exceptional consideration towards children and their guardians. Finally, the school were keen to ensure the new building was aesthetically pleasing and fitted in with the current buildings, so we’re clearly delighted to learn that we could brick-clad their buildings to provide a uniform appearance to the environment and all of this could be delivered within budget and in a tight timeframe in challenging times.

WHAT SPRINGFIELD DID:

We worked with G A Harper, as the main contractor, to deliver a demanding project. This included four additional classrooms, two new staff rooms and two canteen/break-out rooms with high specification internal & external fittings. We were careful to ensure that we provided high-quality interiors to enhance the safety of the children along with roof windows to provide additional natural daylight to the environment. Finally, we built the units in our factory then liaised closely with the contractors to facilitate a smooth installation, at a time dictated by the school and contractor, with minimal disruption to the environment. This was of course all done on time, and on budget.
